Context: Exploring Animation and Style Through a Conceptual Journey

Flamenco started as a visual and technical exploration exercise, built around a simple premise: a flamingo traveling through its own world. The project investigates:

  • How to tell a visual journey without conventional narrative.
  • The impact of a fully geometric style versus realism.
  • The use of a restricted color palette as a visual direction tool.

No brief, no client. The goal is to push animation, design, and look development techniques in an unconstrained context.

Approach: Geometry, Restricted Palette, and Movement

Every visual decision is deliberate:

  • Fully geometric style: both the flamingo and its environment are built from simple shapes.
  • A defined color palette of pinks and greyscale, with occasional warm accents for contrast where needed.
  • A journey: the flamingo doesn't pose — it moves through the scene, requiring animation, timing, and composition in motion.

The result is a piece that prioritizes the aesthetic and conceptual over literal representation.

Technical Development: Full 3D Animation Pipeline

The project covers the entire creative and technical process:

  • Character and environment design from geometry.
  • Modeling and texturing with clean materials coherent with the palette.
  • Look development focused on maximizing chromatic contrast.
  • Character and camera animation integrated into a fluid journey.

Built in Cinema 4D and rendered with Redshift.

Result: Defined Style and Full Visual Control

The final piece demonstrates:

  • The ability to create a self-contained visual universe with consistent aesthetic rules.
  • Character animation control in a geometric, non-realistic context.
  • That a reduced palette can generate more visual impact than a broad one.
  • Mastery of the full pipeline, from idea to final render.

Strategic Application: R&D Feeding Client Work

Projects like this enable:

  • Experimentation with animation and design styles beyond commercial constraints.
  • Refinement of color direction and compositional criteria.
  • Development of character animation techniques applicable to brand projects.
  • Building a distinctive visual language that sets the portfolio apart.

Personal exploration becomes a direct investment in creative capability.
